Behind the scenes at SABEU – Meet Dr. Anja Rollberg, our expert in innovation and sustainability!
Since joining SABEU in November 2023 as VP Membrane Development in Radeberg, Anja has quickly made a significant impact. With her background as a polymer chemist (PhD) and years of experience in membrane technology development, she has brought a wealth of knowledge and passion for innovation to our team. Outside of work, Anja is an active traveller, enjoys fitness, yoga and spending time with friends and her family. As she continues to lead the development of SABEU's cutting-edge products, we're excited to see how she shapes the future of sustainable membrane technology. Today, she shares some insights into her work and daily life:
- Innovation with a focus on sustainability
At SABEU, Anja leads pioneering projects, including the development of PFAS-free membranes - a key innovation in response to global environmental challenges. These membranes are designed and developed at our Radeberg plant before being assembled in Northeim. "It is an exciting time to be working on technologies that have both a market and an environmental impact," says Anja. From research at conferences to partnerships with universities, she's always at the forefront of what's happening in the field and driving SABEU's commitment to sustainability. - A family-like atmosphere
One of the aspects Anja loves most about SABEU, especially in Radeberg, is the tight-knit, supportive work environment. With a small, close team of 15 employees across production, quality control, and development, she enjoys collaborating closely with colleagues from different departments. “At SABEU, you're not just one of many; it feels more like a family. You can address challenges directly, and decisions are made quickly,” she explains. "The shorter decision-making paths and open communication make it a really dynamic place to work." - Balancing work and life
Anja, mother of her young son Emil, works part-time to balance her responsibilities at home and at work. "SABEU is really flexible and allows me to balance my career with my family life, which is incredibly important for me and my family," she says. - Driving research and collaboration
In her role, Anja does everything from running experiments, overseeing quality control and working with production teams to supporting the next generation of talent by mentoring Masters students. Her day is dynamic, often starting with emails, planning experiments and managing customer enquiries, including some international projects. And she's hands-on at every stage of development, working closely with the CTO, conducting market research and preparing SABEU membranes for validation ahead of their launch in 2025.
